The campus is one of the most beautiful, hands down. Freshman year
living was second to none (friendly RA's, all-you-can-eat dining halls,
access to technology, etc.). And it just got better from there.
Athens is the typical college town: small, isolated, beautiful students
away from home for the first time, lots of great bars and restaurants,
etc.
The dorms are great social centers. They all support computers and I
think most have refigerators. The facilities are superb: Rec Center,
hockey rink, pool, computer labs throughout campus.
You can walk from one end of campus to the other in under 15 minutes.
Parking is THE WORST thing about OU and Athens. Avoid driving at all
costs.
The city of Athens is all you can want. Enough said. Visit once and
you're hooked. Regarding where to live off campus, there are so many
sections to Athens to mention. One suggestion, start looking VERY
EARLY...months and months and months ahead actually.
Victims of crime are few and far between. This is a small town and
people look out for one another. Emergency phones are positioned
throughout campus. The campus and town are well-lit. You can call a
campus-sponsored escort if you are uncomfortable getting home at
night. Patrolling by police and residence hall staff is ongoing.
