In 2000 I would say this is where OU was lacking. Campus recruiting is limited
to Ohio companies more or less. If you want a job in Ohio, they actually do have
a lot of representatives on campus. Networking through activities other than the
Career Services department (alumni from fraternities/sororities, athletics,
major-specific organizations) is much more benefitial.
The Career Services department does have a library to research companies and
they do actually try to help out. They are a good resource. I had aspirations
to move to New York City and get a job in the financial services industry. Doing
research on companies, how to write a resume, etc. my senior year I was able to
graduate with a Wall Street job waiting for me (and my grades were only average
at graduation).
If you do well in your major, have a good resume (I recommend to every student
doing some kind of internship) and interview well, you should be a top job
prospect. Knowing many ivy-leaguers I now realize the school gets them the
connections and a foot in the door. Getting the job is still up to you.
