Admissions was not too involved. The process included submitting the
application (fairly standard) and fee. In 1996 the essays were
optional, though encouraged, especially if you are a "borderline"
applicant. An interview is not required. Over the last 10 years Ohio
University has become much more selective. I would consider it one of
the most selective among PUBLIC universities in Ohio (along with Miami
U.). Many borderline students are wait-listed these days, a good
percentage denied admission.
To get in I would recommend: Submitting a flawless application earlier
than later in the application cycle. Writing good essays (I recommend
a teacher review them as well as a non-educational individual) to send
along with the application. Take a trip to the campus (they have good
informational tours and I believe you can stay overnight in a dorm
room). And always keep in touch with the university. Find a contact
in the Admissions office and follow up if you don't hear from them in
the time frame they give you.
