The on campus housing is improving. In my four years here, I have seen
5 new housing buildings go up. Very impressive since NU is right in
Back Bay and property is not cheap. Many kids live off campus after
their freshman year to save money. I would say the average rent off
campus is around $750 a month. Some pay less and the kids who are
wealthy pay much more. The gym is state of the art. Although it is
getting somewhat to crowded with the over acceptance over the past few
years. It is safe at Northeastern. If you live behind the University a
little more unsafe as well as if you live near Fenway Park. You have to
keep in mind it is Boston. With any major city comes risk, but if you
are aware of your surroundings and do not walk alone at 4 in the
morning you will be fine. The university also offers campus police who
will actually come pick you up if you need them too, free of charge.
The classrooms are overall good. Some buildings are nicer than others
but how nice does a place where you sit down and take notes have to be?
The freshman dining hall is good. It has two different cafeterias with
options like stir fry, pizza, and the usual cafeteria food. In addition
there are lots of reasonably priced pizza and pasta restaurants when
you get tired of the cafe. If you have money to dine out, Boston offers
a great selection of food and many varieties. Overall I have been
happy, a few problems but nothing that made me want to transfer.
