Quality of life at NYU is not what you'd expect from a college. It is,
however, what you would expect from a college that is situated in the
heart of New York City. Dorms are spread out across the lower half of
the island, and there is little to no centralized campus area.
Therefore, it is not uncommon for students to feel alone in the city when
not living in freshman residence halls. However, NYU provides many
opportunities for students to mingle with others. The residence halls
are all large and full of social activities, as well as a dining hall in
nearly each one. There are two well-equipt, full-size gyms, each with an
olympic swimming pool, that are within easy access of all residence
halls. The new student center was completed last year, and provides
ample study space on weekends, and the 24-hour library is also a great
help. NYU feels very safe, because there are many 24 hour buildings on
campus which are open to provide help to students. Overall, the school
does a wonderful job reminding its students that they are at a college,
there are events they can attend with other students, and that New York
is available at their fingertips.
