The Jamaica campus is simply not safe to live at. During the week, it
is safe, however, the weekends are different. The dorms are very new
and very nice, but the students that live in them are for the most part,
thugs. It has gotten so bad, the NYPD not patrols our campus. Three
years ago, a student was shot by one of the many non-SJU people that
roam on to the campus on the weekends. The neighborhood is very
unsafe. Also, there have been several cases of rape in the past three
years. It seems like at least every other week a dorm student comes
back to his/her room only to find out thier computer or stereo is
missing. SJU public safety attempts, but never seems to keep this
campus safe for the dorm students.
