Finding cool internships and little jobs is not a problem while you are a
student. NYU Career Net offers constant updated job offerings on and off campus.
For those of us who wanted jobs, we got them. Stern students get the best jobs of
course. Most seniors already had job offerings by the time they started their
last year. For the rest of the liberal minded majority, we had problems. NYU is a
place that doesnt come to you, you have to come to it, bang on its door and
plead with the bouncer to let you in (fake id's not recommended) Career
counselors are super nice and super inefficient, you are better off dealing with
HR on your own. But if you want someone to give you an ego boost, and mark up
your resume in a pretty red, then by all means career services is the place to
go. Another important thing to keep in mind, NYUers supposedly were encouraged to
take advantage of several offices that serviced career needs --- however, upon
setting foot into one of these offices, you got so confused and overwhelmed with
superfluous amounts of handouts and information thrown at you, that your initial
instinct was to run out as soon as possible and seriously start considering the
competitive advantage you would gain from begging for money on the corner of
Broadway and W.4th. On the upside, the annual career fair is a great opportunity
to forego Staples and collect pretty highlighters, cool pens, glow in the dark
paper clips and foam cup holders from prospective employers who pretend like they
want to hire you, but in reality you know that they are just doing it because
their company gave them money to spend and a day off work.
