A degree from MSU carries a lot of weight for a combination of reasons. The most
convincing reason I think is the fact that it's such a large school. Employers
respect anyone that can survive and thrive at such a big place because they know
that student stands a good chance of making it in the real world.
MSU has many student organizations (over 250 I think) that give kids a chance to
"warm-up" for the working world and apply their skills outside the classroom.
Those opportunities lead to other opportunities, such as internships and even
