Full-time undergraduate engineering program There are two primary paths at the academy but recently other programs have been added. The first is marine engineering and the second is marine transportation. The marine engineering program results in both a B.S. Engineering and a Coast Guard license as a Third Assistant Engineer for any steam or motor vessel, of any horsepower, on any ocean. For marine transportation: a BS in marine transportation and a similar Coast Gard licence as a third mate for any steam or motor vessel, of any horsepower, on any ocean. The marine engineering program provides for any ocean going engineering position as well as many mechanical engineering positions. Many graduates migrate toward Facilities Engineering and plant management and operations positions as well as engineering sales positions. Marine transportation is somewhat limited to ocean ggoing positions or marine related shoreside positions such as sales, insurance inspection, etc.
