Coming into the "real world" with a MIT degree automatically gives you one foot
in the door for most jobs. The career center and campus recruiting is always
good even in down years. Offers may be harder to come by, but even when times
are lean companies will still come to hire at MIT. No company wants to be
blacklisted by MIT.
There are usually 1-2 career fairs during each term that drop 300-400 companies
each time. Lots of opportunity to smooze with recruiters and build a
relationship before the interviewing process begins especially if you start
visiting during your sophomore and junior years.
There are a large number of internship opportunities as well. Ford, Boeing, GE,
IBM, Schaumberger, Microsoft, Intel, HP, Apple, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan,
Goldman Sachs all recruit summer interns from MIT.
