I'm not a sorority girl so I can't give much information on the greek
system. There are a few houses off campus for fraternities. At the
time I graduated, none of the sororities had houses. Each
sorority/fraternity had a reserved table in the commuter dining hall.
In terms of bars, Champions was were the greeks hung out. Most of the
people I knew went to Hamilton's. There were also after hour places
further up Sheridan Rd near Lakeside. I can't remember the name. For
the most part, there were 3 or 4 bars in the area that the college
students went to. Sometimes students from Northwestern would be at the
bars as well as Evanston (a little north of Rogers Park) doesn't have a
bar scene.
Otherwise, many of the campus groups had dances. CLUB (a student
organization) and LSGA (student govt) both were involved in showing
movies, getting comedians and setting up other on-campus attractions.
The student union also had a recreation center with video games, ping
pong, pool tables, juke box, board games and a big screen tv.
Activities and tournaments were also scheduled there.
Plus, downtown Chicago is just a short "el" ride away. Many students
took advantage of the bar and club scene within the "Loop" as well as
the restaurants, comedy clubs, shopping and museums.
