Students aren't terribly friendly at Hopkins, unfortunately. The most
social place in the school was the library, where you'd often see
people studying from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. The school closed down the campus
bar when I was a senior, so there really weren't any good places to go
on campus. There were a few local bars that students hung out at, but a
lot of people went down to downtown Baltimore to escape the monotony of
PJ's Pub and Rootie Kazootie's. Baltimore has excellent restaurants,
including a very wide selection of international and continental
cuisines. Some of the best Sushi I've ever had was at Kawasaki on N.
Charles St.
The Greek system is pretty big, but plenty of people don't join
sororities and frats. Most weekend night activity would occur at one of
the frat houses off campus. The underclassmen tend to pack the frats,
while upperclassmen often went out on their own.
