The quality of life at Hopkins isn't bad, but it could be better, and
the university has worked hard since 2001 to improve a number of things
related to student life. Students are required to live on campus for
their first two years, but then are forced to live off campus due to a
lack of university owned dorms or apartments. Many students say that
this contributes to a sense that there is a lack of community. The
university has expanded its properties and is planning to build or
acquire more dorms and apartment buildings, but for the next 10 years
or so, a large number of students will continue to live off campus.
Freshman and sophomore dorms are spacious and offer nice amenities such
as lounges and TV rooms on every floor. Some buildings even have small
gyms on the ground floor.
The classroom facilities are amazing and have only gotten better since
2001, when Hopkins began building several new buildings. The university
has done a good job of making the new buildings fit in with the older
Georgian style original buildings.
