The easiest way to get admitted to Johns Hopkins is to apply Early
Decision, which is binding, but admits nearly thiry to forty percent of
the incoming class. Hopkins has a great affinity for students who
participated in the Hopkins Pre-College program, a summer school for
advanced high school students that allows you to take summer courses
with regular Hopkins students. Nearly all Hopkins pre-college students
are admitted to the university if they choose to apply.
An admissions interview is not required, but is a good idea. The
process itself is undaunting since most of the interviews are conducted
by student admissions representatives. That makes it easier to
establish a rapport, especially if the interviewer shares similar
interests and hobbies with you. The admissions office at Johns Hopkins
is one of the most un-stuffy groups on campus, so even if you interview
with a full-time admissions staff member, it's likely to be fun.
Just as the university encourages individuality and independence among
its students, the admissions offices likes to see individual creativity
in admissions essays. There are usually two or three essay questions
with one guaranteed not to be asked anywhere else. Questions have
included things like, "What you make if you only had a box, a piece of
string, a pipe cleaner and a toaster?"
