I did not take appropriate advantage of the career resources that were available
to me at JMU. I have returned since then to recruit as an employer, and I know
from my discussions with fellow recruiters that JMU students are considered to be
top-notch. The academic standards at JMU are not considered to be on the same
par as fellow state schools UVA and William and Mary (although I knew from
comparing notes with my friends who attended those schools that my courses were
every bit as hard) but JMU is reputed to turn out a "complete package"--meaning
that they almost force involvement in campus life down students' throats, so that
a JMU graduate has not held their nose in a book for four years. JMU students
come out of school prepared for life with well-developed general skills, and
generally know how to conduct themselves professionally.
