This, by far was the best part of my experience at Howard. I found the
social scene at Howard University to be absolutely amazing, and
energizing and fun. The parties at Howard were wild and memorable to
say the least. Every day out on "The yard" was like a fashion show.
And every day something is going on at Howard, from yardfests to
television shoots, preview movies, famous speakers (Colin Powell, Jesse
Jackson, Al Gore, Larry Ellison, Jay-Z), fashion shows, concerts, step
shows, political rallys, community service (and I mean a LOT of it!),
homecoming, football/basketball games. Many of the black sororities
and fraternities were founded at HU. Howard is teeming with talented,
articulate, successful people (students and professors) from all around
the country and the world. The mixture of cultures, attitudes,
backgrounds, perceptions, and experiences make for very interesting
classes and synergies on campus. It gives the school a more
international perspective.
Being in the nation's capitol allows students incredible access to
political figures, institutions and organizations that impact the rest
of the world. D.C. also has several other schools, and a great night
life. Also, I met great friends at howard who I still keep in contact
with today.
It is important for me to note that WAY more women than men attend
Howard, so be prepared. Also, Howard needs to make it easier for
students to study abroad (although I did, it was difficult to arrange).
