It certainly does not hurt an applicant to be able to show that he or she has
graduated from Harvard. That said, many employers may be suspicious that the grad
is a know-it-all prig who feels that real work is beneath him or her. If that is
true in your case, then you deserve all the rejection that will come your way.
But if you can have a little humility and a sense of humor about coming from
Harvard, you'll do just fine. The top Wall Street firms recruit there, but only a
small fraction of the student body wants to work at those anyway. If you're
interested in something else, go to the career office and talk to someone about
it. There's sure to be a helpful alum somewhere to talk you through the necessary
steps, if only on the phone.
