Employment Prospects Survey
Full-time Undergraduate Program OCS has good resources, but the biggest thing is the name. You will almost always get an interview just because you went to Harvard. I'm almost positive that I wouldn't have gotten my first job without having gone to Harvard. I didn't have that much experience in the field (journalism) but got interviewed and a job offer. While I was working, I can remember numerous times when editors made fun of hapless soon-to-be grads who would call up asking about their resume submission, and saying something like "But I went to Columbia." So what, was the editors' line, suggesting that journalism is a hard-knocks career where elitism doesn't get you anywhere. But I KNOW that I got my interview b/c of Harvard (I, of course, didn't call in and say "well, I went to Harvard," the resume did the work itself). Finally, the alumni network is, unaparalleled. In my experience: 1) people who meet each other during school keep in touch very well, especially in big cities like NYC or San Fran and 2) alumni that you didn't know at t school are always willing to help. I didn't go through on-campus recruiting for I-banking or consulting, but a lot of people I know did. Seems like they all landed at top firms.
