Getting into Harvard is as much about good fortune as it is about
grades, essays and recommendations. Ofcourse, you would be hard
pressed to find many students at Harvard who did not excel in all three
of those areas. Most students here are either extraordinarily well
rounded (scholar-athlete-musicians) or exceptionally talented in a
single area (olympic gold medalists).
To get in, get good grades, have very positive recommendations, and
make sure your essay is both well-written and creative. Ofcourse, even
if you feel that you don't have all three of these elements perfectly
in order, there is little harm in applying. Harvard does value
diversity and makes an honest effort to thoroughly evaluate all
candidates -- don't be afraid of a GPA or SAT cutoff.
