| Full-time undergraduate program |
I chose to apply to the George Washington University based on the
reported strength of its programs and departments in the areas of
political science and international affairs, my intended dual-majors:
the location was also a significant factor. I did not talk to anybody
who had personally attended the University, but relied mainly on
college guides. Oddly, I never visited the campus or admittedly even
the city before choosing to attend. The admissions process itself
consisted of a small preliminary application (name, SSN, address, etc)
which as I recall was due by the end of December, with a more normal,
detailed application to follow by the end of February (I chose to use
the Common Application, which GW accepted): consequentially, all
application requirements were simply those necessitated by the Common
Application. I did not interview with anybody from the school as part
of my application process: an interview was not required but was
encouraged at the students' discretion. The year I enrolled, I believe
the acceptance rate was somewhere in the vicinity of 40%.
