Greek system is banned from campus. You may belong to a greek
organization, however it must be kept off campus and underground. There
is no recruitment of students to join greek organizations allowed, and
if students are caught recruiting or holding meetings on campus, there
are serious repercussions that are handed down from a higher level of
administration. As for restaurants, definitely go to Giovanni's down on
Hoffman, which is roughly about 3 blocks and its in front of another
Restaurant, Mario's, which serves up a delicious Italian cuisine. As for
the bar scene, the negative is that students dorming on campus frequent
the bars from Thursday thru Saturday night - and those who don't know
how to handle drinking or excercising responsibility on when to stop -
are the type of students that will cause trouble off campus with fights
inside or outside the bars; or incidents in which someone gets hurt.
There have been numerous reports that bars tend to serve under age
drinkers who enter with a fake ID; complaints from people who live in
the neighborhood who have reported students as being obnoxious, overly
drunk, others who are defecating property and making loud noises when
they leave the bars. The best bars to go are definitely in the Lower
East Side; or the trendy spots in the East Village.
