The first year or two that I was at Duke, social life was mostly in the
dorms and on campus. As the alcohol policy became more restrictive,
students left campus more often for socializing. As for dating, I think
most people hung out in groups of friends more so than couples, however,
you did see on occasion two love-birds holding hands :) The greek
system is there, but you don't have to be a part of it to have a social
life, which is excellent. It is a balanced part of Duke and doesn't
overwhelm the campus as it can at many state schools.
