The social life is dependent on the quickly vanishing Greek system
(trustees in process of dismantling the Greek system) because the
college is located in a town with a population of only about 7,000
residents. Forget having a good selection of restaurants, no clubs,
events are limited to sporting events, and social gatherings offered by
the school. Hanover is a very small town. Which on one hand is good,
because everyone between the ages of 18-24 is a student at Dartmouth, so
there's an instant camaraderie and lots of opportunities for interaction
(dating, parties, etc). But increases the competitive feeling of the
school when you only see other students inside and outside of the
classroom. If you like seeing a mixture of different peoples (ages,
colors, etc.), you may not enjoy being at Dartmouth. But if you are
serious about studying economics, communing with nature, and/or
networking with the professors for four years, there are few schools
I've heard of that offer such a high level of accessibility to truly
interesting students and accessibility to brilliant professors that
Dartmouth offers. Otherwise, Dartmouth may not be the best choice to
direct $100K of your money and four years of your life.
