The social scene is fairly homogenous. The frat system still dominates
despite Dartmouth's efforts to tear it down and introduce a co-ed social
system and pong is the past time of choice for most students. Collis and
off-campus house parties offer alternatives but a good 50% of the school
is Greek.
The town provides a few bars and overpriced restaurants in its quaint
college town way. Don't miss out on Lou's for breakfast, Murphy's for
steak, or Molly's for its world-class bread and butter. Ofcourse you
can't really miss any of them since there are few alternatives.
The dating scene is removed from reality because the concept of the
telephone ceases to exist once students are issued their laptops and
discover blitzmail. There are blitz terminals throughout campus (blamed
for the pink eye epidemic of years past) where students wait in line to
check their email. As dates most students will attend movies at the hop
and resort to frats for nightly entertainment. Frat parties frequently
have themes which rile up the campus. Disco, 80's, redlightgreenlight
are some of the parties that incite students to dress up (don't forget
your costume wear and accessories) and drudge out of their rooms in
below zero temperatures in the still of the winter through the 3 feet of
snow that lands in october and doesn't leave till may. Dartmouth is a
phenomenal place for skiiers but not for the faint of heart who crave
sunlight and warmth.
