The quality of life at this institution in remarkably high but the
school is still not for everyone. Dining is superior (although everyone
complains about the fare at food court, for different options try home
plate), crime is non-existant, the facilities are extremely well
maintained, and housing usually consists of large, centrally-located
rooms (except for freshmen). The campus is absolutely charming and looks
like the quintessential New England college.
Addressing the housing situation: freshmen and sophomores suffer the
brunt of the housing blues by being shacked up in the "treehouses" or
out in the distant River Cluster or Choates Cluster. Some luck out and
find housing in the exclusive East Wheelock with its elevators, ample
study spaces, an in-house cafe but many sophomores are stuck in the
Lodge (a converted motel off-campus) or in distant locations. The
coveted place to live is in the multitude of singles that exist in Mass
Row desired for its ideal location (next to all adminstrative buildings,
Collis and Food Court) and spacious quarters. Many rooms have built in
bathrooms. Typically these are filled by seniors but the occasional
underclassman sneaks in.
