| Full-time undergraduate program |
Although I am sure I am biased, I can imagine no better school for the
setting of an undergraduate experience. The campus is idyllic, with
stunning colonial buildings blending in with the rolling hills and
forests of New Hampshire. Stunning fall foliage, the pristine beauty of
virgin snow in winter, and the natural green of spring and summer set
this location apart from any urban campus.
Hanover offers access to a wealth of outdoors activities: hiking, rock
climbing, boating, skiing, etc. Dartmouth owns massive land grants
throughout New Hampshire, including its own ski mountain! Almost
everyone begins his or her Dartmouth experience with a DOC (Dartmouth
Outing Club) trip. These trips are designed for all 1100 entering
freshmen to start college through three-day excursions into the
wilderness, culminating at a mountain lodge owned by the College.
Hanover is an incredibly safe environment, but is also isolated. What is
gained through the perfect setting, outdoor recreation, etc, comes at
the expense of the lack of an urban setting. It does create an
experience fixated on the campus life, which only serves to bolster the
social life on campus.
Dartmouth's facilities are constantly being upgraded, with dorms and the
campus in general being remodeled constantly. The dining services, which
clearly get tiring by the end of any college career, are nevertheless
pretty good, and there are enough local restaurants to supplement the
campus offerings.
