I cannot tell you the power behind the Dartmouth name. Once you are a Dartmouth
alum, first of all, you have an entire network of Dartmouth alums who are all
willing to help connect you with career opportunities. But, even more than that,
no matter where you go, you are respected as an academic mind in business, arts,
whatever.
On campus recruiting at DArtmouth was pretty phenomenal and many grads do go on
to top banking and consulting firms. I wasn't into that and am now a teacher,
but the DArtmouth name certainly got me my first teaching job out of college and
didn't hurt in my admission to Harvard for graduate school. In general, now that
I am five years out of school, I am constantly impressed with the renowned firms,
schools, and institutions where my classmates work or of which they are a part.
Almost everyone I know is at the top of their field, well-respected and doing
amazing things on whatever path they have chosen. Actresses, directors, doctors
at Yale med, lawyers who've graduated from Harvard Law and are now at top
firms.... it goes on and on. And that doesn't even mention all the people who
are doing cutting-edge academic research someplace, but we just haven't heard of
their work YET.
