Dartmouth is a pre-professional school. The school does an excellent job placing
graduates in consulting, investment banking, and other corporate jobs. Graduates
also end up at medical, law, and business schools. Fewer students pursue research
goals than one would probably find at MIT, and fewer people go to
non-professional graduate schools.
In part, this results from the advising system. Dartmouth has a strong
relationship with corporate recruiters, guiding prospective graduates through the
hiring process smoothly. Additionally, academic advising enables students to
easily prepare themselves for professional programs. The advising falls short,
however, in preparing candidates for graduate school. Perhaps because of
Dartmouth's relatively small graduate enrollment, the College is simply not well
prepared to handle graduate school advising.
Dartmouth is a favorite choice for many employers, and the institution is
regularly cited among the favorite spots for finding well-balanced employees. If
your intention is to go on to the business world, Dartmouth provides unparalleled
preparation.
