Dartmouth concentrates on a person as a whole. They are looking for well-
rounded, intelligent people that have proven ability to influence their
community and peers. They lean on athletics mainly because it
establishes a person as a team player.
Their admission process studies your grades, SAT's, accomplishments,
interviewing ability and essays. While there is the odd case of someone
being accepted for a single accomplishment Dartmouth demands a high
average of all factors as opposed to one stellar accomplishment. Their
essays are unique unlike some of the larger universities in the ivy
league and look for understanding, open-mindedness, and worldliness.
Diversity is also essential to Dartmouth as it has held the reputation
of the old boys club longer than many of its ivy peers and was the last
to admit women. No longer the case, Dartmouth focuses heavily on
recruiting minorities and balancing the male-female ratio. Dartmouth
offers a plethora of scholarships for minorities in their efforts to
increase diversity.
