Cornell kicks off and end the school year with big festivals on various
quads. Fall Fest, run by the Greek system, is similar to a giant
carnival and also provides an opportunity for those individuals looking
to join a Greek organization an easy way to meet the men and women
involved. There is also sometimes a band at Fall Fest as well. The
last day of classes marks the best party of Cornell and was ranked one
of the best parties in the states by MTV...and that's slope day.
Everyone cuts their last day of classes to drink and hang out with
friends before finals begin. Its a great day since everyone is happy
and stress free and enjoying the spring weather. Many professors come
out to celebrate as well. The schools funds a carnival and bands held
on west campus, just under libe slope, which has food and various
activities throughout the day. The Greek system is large enough on
campus that if it is something you are looking for you will have
numerous fraternities and sororities to choose from, however, it is not
campus dominating that you will lack a social life if you are not into
the Greek scene. At Cornell you can really have a great time either
way. The bars are your average campus bars easily located right across
campus in college town and on most Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights
they are packed. If you make it out on Wednesdays head to Dunbars for
group therapy night which is a pitcher and 5 shots for $5 (though the
price could have inflated over the years, but its still a bargain). The
concert committee brings numerous bands to campus including guster, Dave
Matthews, indigo girls, and many others. With a hotel school on campus,
the food in the area is very good. Many of the hotel school professors
have started their own restaurants in Ithaca or have probably had some
influence on the successful ones in town. Any cuisine you could want,
you can find here and if its late at night numerous places deliver till
4am plus Wegmans (the best supermarket) is open 24hrs.
