The campus is beautiful and amazing. Cornell is located on a hill above
a huge lake in a small city in central NY. There are two colleges in
town and a small 'main street' environment between the two campuses
known as "The Commons". The campus itself is a mix of glorious gothic
buildings and modern technology with gorges and streams running through
it. As a freshman I lived in a dorm built in the early 1900's, now the
freshman live in brand new accomodations. Cornell has incredible dining
halls and often has top restaurants and chefs cater for special dining
hall events. Mostly freshman and transfers are the only people who live
on campus. Everyone else lives in collegetown which is located next to
campus with most houses being about a 5 to 10 minute walk. Ithaca (the
town) has done everything in its power to avoid major chains, so instead
of being overrun with McDonalds and Taco Bells, the town has a variety
of unique and delicious restaurants. The town and the campus are both
incredibly safe, but there is no real reason to ever leave collegetown.
