From my experience as a business major, career placement is excellent. On campus
recruiting is plentiful, and although the process of getting the interview can be
a little intense, it is certainly an experience! (companies usually prescreen
resumes and fill half of their interview slots, the other half are filled on a
first-come-first-serve basis, with people lining up oustide as early as 1 am to
score an interview with an Investment Bank.) Each school has their own career
center, and there you will find books, videos, pamphlets, etc. on various career
paths and how to go about finding a job. You can meet with a counselor to go over
your resume, cover letter, job options, and can even set up a mock interview.
There are online job banks as well alumni listings for students to go through to
find a job or an internship. I think that most Cornell Alumni feel strong ties to
the school and will try and help out a student or fellow alumni in anyway
possible. There are also opportunties to use a semester to intern outside of
Ithaca (Cornell in Washington, the Urban Semester Program, stdying abroad) during
the school year and earn elective credits toward you degree. Once out of a
school, I think the Cornell name goes a long way, and will catch the eye of many
perspective employers. Someone always knows someone who went to the Big Red.
