I applied early decision. The most prominent college mentor in my high
school told me I should apply early somewhere else, because I didn't
have a chance at getting in here, with so many people from our school
applying here. I wanted Cornell more, though, and took my chances. I had
good verbal scores (790) so I applied for Communications, since I'd like
to spread information about the environment. Everything counts - SATs,
grades, essays, recommendations - but you also really have to show that
Cornell (or wherever) is where you want to be and what you have that you
can offer the school.
