I had not heard too much of Cornell (I'm from southern California) but decided
to
apply because it was an ivy league school. At the time (fall, 98) Cornell was
one
of the only schools to which I applied where you could fill out the entire
application online. That streamlined the process for me. I was a good student
who attended a small Catholic high school and was involved in a lot of
extracurricular activities.
The interview meant NOTHING. In fact, mine was a disaster. I had a tech alum (I
was an English major) who had no social skills and interviewed me in a Popeye's
fried chicken. I left the interview thinking that I would never go to a school
that
allowed THAT to attend. :)
As far as selectivity, I was rejected from Stanford and Harvard and waitlisted
at
Georgetown and Columbia, accepted to Berkeley, UCLA, and Brandeis. So I
guess Cornell was a little less selective than some other schools.
