Only 3 real bars exist - The Green Leafe, Paul's, and College Delly -
but they are frequented heavily by the students (especially in the
business school!). College Delly is filled with freshmen and
sophomores, by the time you're a senior you hang out at "The Leafe" for
their wide selection of beer and Sunday Mug Nights. About one third of
undergrad students are in greek organizations. There are lots of
restaurants in the area (Colonial Williamsburg is, after all, a tourist
destination). Favorites are The Cheese Shop which has a new location in
CW on DOG Street (students references to Colonial Williamsburg and Duke
of Gloucester Street), Mogolian Barbecue, SnoToGo (summers only -
snoball/ice cream place), and Sal's. Also good ethnic food - Nawab
Indian and Chez Trinh Vietnamese. Williasmburg is a big shopping
destination, and the outlets are close by. VA Beach and Norfolk are 45
minutes to an hour away. Of course you have to participate in the W&M
Triathalon as an undergrad - jump, streak, swim - in which you jump over
the CW Governor's Palace wall to run through the maze before the
security guards catch you, swim the Crim Dell pond, and streak the
school's Sunken Gardens. As the oldest continuously used university in
the country, the school has a lot of tradition, this being one of them,
and you'll find a lot of the social events surround the idea of keeping
with those traditions.
