there was a known bar for underage drinking but all the police seemed to
care about is that drunken college students got arrested. there was a
nice casino in town with a bar. if you had a few extra bucks during the
term you could get in there and drink.
there were no movie theaters, thank goodness for blockbuster video.
most of the community activities were held when school was not in
session so that the surrounding community could attend but cmu students
were for the most part, not welcome.
for excitment, we would often get together in groups and travel to the
nearest big city and go to the mall/
mostly if you stayed at cmu you scheduled your classes so that you only
had to be there 3 days a week and you went back home when you were not
in class.
cmu did at the time i was attending have a retention committee. this
group of folks would if you complained loud enough help you find a
house, textbooks or made sure you had what you needed. most people came
and stayed for a year and left because the quality of classes, college
life and the community was downright nasty to a student.
you would stay at cmu becasue you loved what you were doing and these
transgressions were just a minor inconvenience.
there were no places to get ethnic foods, have your hair done, or have
any comforts of home unless you were anglo-saxon.
