The Greek system comprises around 10% of the student population. Though
it's not huge, it's very apparent. Cal Poly has hundreds of clubs on
campus, from Campus Crusade for Christ to the Ski Club. The bars are
always pumping on Tuesday for Pint Nite at Frog and Peach Pub and 80s
Night at Mother's Tavern. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night are also
popular nights to venture downtown. San Luis Obispo (referred to as SLO)
has a lot of restaurants with great reputations, such as the Apple Farm
and Tahoe Joe's. Head just 15 minutes south to Shell Beach and go to F.
McClintock's Mercantile Steakhouse. For under-18 year olds the Graduate
dance club is a popular spot. SLO is just an hour and a half away from
great shopping in Santa Barbara. If you don't want to make the drive or
don't have a car, downtown offers it's own array of unique boutiques and
stores. Thursday night's Farmer's Market on the main downtown street,
Higuera St., is a popular stop to get great tri-tip and inexpensive
fresh flowers, fruits, and veggies. Or, if you're looking for a low-key
evening, check out the old one-screen Fremont Theatre with its
incredible ceiling and overall ambiance. The town may be small, but
there is truly something for everyone.
