The admissions process is rather quick and painless. You fill in a
generic CUNY application, which is mostly filling out biographical and
educational credentials and checking boxes about which schools and
programs for which you'd like to apply. You send in transcripts of all
previous high school and college work. There are no interviews, essays,
or recommendations required for admissions. It is extremely simple and
straightforward. Admissions is easy for anyone who graduated from a NYC
public school with a B or better average, or anyone else who had similar
grades and 1000 or better on the SATs. No SAT 2/Achievement tests are
required, either. There seems to be no limit on the number of incoming
students, so there's basically no competition for good students in terms
of fighting for finite number of spaces with equally qualified students.
In this aspect, Hunter has just about the fairest possible admissions
process. It's not high on the usual measures of selectivity, but that
doesn't mean it's not an adequate school.
