If you love city life, then you probably are not even considering
Bucknell. Because of its rural setting, Bucknell students primarily stay
on campus for entertainment, unless it's a trip to the Susquehanna
Valley Mall for a movie. The school has several committees set up to
provide entertainment to the student body. The two concerts each year
usually draw big name artests, recent years include Dave Matthews,
Shaggy, and Counting Crows. The Greek scene at Bucknell dominates the
social agenda for the majority of students. First year students are not
eligible to rush, but this allows first years to make a more educated
choice before joining the Greek system. For those 21 and over, downtown
Lewisburg used to only have one main bar, the Bull Run, but now with the
Highlands Pub and good drink specials, students are exploring the other
offerings a little more. Thursdays at the Hotel are great for wings and
LIT's and the Town Tavern (Townie T) offers a good place to avoid the
crowds of the Bull Run and (appropriatly) mingle with the townies. The
big weekend of the year, which draws college students from all over the
East coast is House Party weekend. Usually held in the beginning of
April, this weekend packs over well over 10,000 students and recent
alumni onto its campus, all looking for good music and free beer. It has
become more regulated in recent years, but still a much anticipated
event.
