Bowdoin's admission process is fairly standard, utilizing the Common
Application and its primary essay as the basis for analysis. In
addition, applicants are required to submit a supplemental essay which
describes the positive impact that a secondary school teacher has had
on his/her development. A strong supplemental essay will focus on an
isolated example of the teacher's influence, preferably with ties to
both academic and personal development. The trick is to provide an
account that highlights the teacher's unique style, and the way that
he/she personally connected with the applicant.
Interviewing is not required, but, obviously, provides the applicant
with the opportunity to speak with a representative from the admissions
board and to show his/her extreme desire to attend Bowdoin.
Bowdoin is annually recognized as one of the nation's most selective
schools, and an applicant who seriously wants to enroll there should do
everything in his/her power to assure that their application is
polished, essays are perfect, and that their credentials will place
them among the top percentage of applicants in the country.
