I called Boston University's main line 617-353-2000 and asked that a
catalog and application be sent to me. You can now request it at their
www.bu.edu/admissions site. There's an application to fill out and on
the application you can request to have an informational interview with
an alum in your area. So one Sunday, I met with the interviewer at a
Starbucks and we just talked about school, what it's like going there
from where we grew up, etc. You can ask any questions you want. There's
no "interview" for admission. Just the regular letters of
recommendation, transcripts, essays and application. The essays are
mostly standard ones. I was asked to describe a life changing event in
one essay. Boston University values diversity so it would be good to
include something that sets you apart in your essay. You have to choose
a school within Boston University when you apply and depending on what
school you choose (ie. College of Communications, College of Arts and
Sciences, School of Management), there are different criteria for
getting in. The College of Communications is known to be very
competitive while the Collage of Arts and Sciences is easier to get
into. Students who don't know what they want to study yet should apply
to the College of Arts and Sciences. They can always transfer later on.
