In order to be admiited in 1993 when I applied, you had to fill out an
application and write an essay as well as provide either ACT or SAT
scores. Beloit College seemed in 1993 to be looking for students who
were individuals, not the typical well-rounded student that high school
counselors often touted. I think at that time, Beloit was
considered "very selective" but given the various terms, I am not sure
what that meant. Beloit was moderately selective, i.e. not everyone was
going to get in, but at the same time Beloit took a chance on a lot of
interesting students who may not have been accepted at comparable
liberal arts schools. There were lots of admissions events, including a
weekend for high school students to come and stay on campus and meet
students and attend classes. I would highly recommend attending such an
event because it settled for me that I wanted to attend Beloit College.
I do not recall that I had an interview with anyone, but I did start my
trip at the admissions office and met with someone I believe.
