Job Responsibilities
Advertising, cheerleading, working with employees all over the
world, motivating volunteer staff.

Job Requirements
Personality counts for about 90% of this job, technical skills
account for the remainder. If I wasn't technically adept, I would
be unable to do this, but at the same time if I wasn't who I am,
I never would have been asked to do this.

Uppers
More or less self-employed, I make my own hours. I get a chance to manage
people, which I've only done a little of in my regular career (e. g. I do things
I don't have direct experience for, which everyone in the group does), and there
are chances to act in all sorts of different capacities. Management structure is
loose. I do this job for love, as does everyone else in the organization.

Downers
I'm a volunteer, I could and should be making some money of some
sort for what I do. 'Nuff said.
|
Lifestyle
Hours are whatever you like, but I often end up with 8, although generally not
all at once. A nap in the middle of the day is not unusual. There is no travel
and no dress code.
|
Compensation
Yes, I'm still a volunteer. I haul in a small amount of cash for
Amazon commissions, but I voluntarily hand over 1/2 of that to my
boss to help pay for hosting, and the remainder is given out in
incentive gifts to my staff.

Advice to Jobseekers
Well, you'll never get rich, but you'll have fun and a great
sense of cameraderie. The best position to be in is to have a
regular job, either full- or part-time, so that you can pay your
bills, and do this on the side.
