Job Requirements
Completed mostly on the job training. Basic accounting to trial balance, customer relations, sales & marketing, good computer skills and overall IT knowledge. I completed a secretarial course when I was young then picked up computer courses along the way. Accounting papers and Computer 1 at uni. Participated in training for OH&S, fire warden etc. Found courses on networking, personal relationships, accounting for non accountants, new business development and upgrading word and excel regularly to be of assistance.
Uppers
Worked totally independently with full responsibility for running the office. Liaison with global and particularly apac branches of the company. Involved with development of web sites, new data bases etc. PR Staff are very creative an exciting environment to work in.
Downers
Not having a good support system for myself. Being management we have responsibility and need some back up also. In this environment the administration people are independent to the functioning of the office. We were a branch in APAC which made things difficult at times.
Lifestyle
I had flexibility with my hours could come and go as I pleased. Was often doing out of office running around and noone worried where I was or not. We had a smart casual dress code unless visitng clients or being notified of overseas visitors then we changed dress code. We developed a good office culture for a year then we were too busy to do activities and it fell by the wayside. Good local knowledge of suppliers for equipment maintenance entertaining conference facilities is valuable.
Compensation
My salary was not good for the work I did only $35000 no other benefits only standard superannuation which is currently paid by employers i australia current rate 9% of salary
Advice to Jobseekers
Could have limitations, once you learn everything can be a little boring. Have to be self motivated and establish systems, client and customer relations yourself. Can be a little lonely being distant office of large interntional co.
