Job Responsibilities
My main responsibility is to help customers with transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, and loan payments. I am also expeted to let customers know when there are other financial services that might benefit them better and refer them to someone who could help. I also do quite a bit of side jobs, by my chouce, such as filing, making calls to customers, and posting our branch's numbers.
Job Requirements
It was not necessary for me to take any college courses.
Uppers
I definately love the bankers hours! I work in alternating weeks, one will be Monday through Friday, then the next will be one week day off with a 4.5 hour day on Saturday. I get some great discounts through my wireless company like 45% off of accessories and 15% off of my monthly bill. I have great benefits through Group Health and Delta Dental (who were my choices before I worked for Washington Mutual).
Downers
The only downer I can think of is that when you hire on as a teller you are required to stay at the branch that hires you for one year...you can't leave within the company. So I am pretty bored with my job right now and ready to move on, but I can't for 5 more months.
Lifestyle
Like I said, the hours are great! I always get at least half of Saturday and all of Sunday off so it is really easy to make plans. The dress code is really simple, and really cheap! We wear shirts provided by the company and business casual style pants/shirts with nice shoes.
Compensation
At entry level I made $10 an hour and was also in the monthly bonus program called the teller pool. I actually did quite well in the teller pool and made an extra $200 each month. The benefits are great like I discussed above, and I will be able to get a 401 K on my one year anniversary.
Advice to Jobseekers
You're going to love it! I have worked for numerous companies in the past and this one is the best. Not only that, but there is no end to where you will stop learning, growing, and moving up.
