Job Requirements
This was my second career which I started through an internship. I moved to New York city after finishing an Associates Degree program at the Art Institutes International in Portland, Oregon after which I became involved in video editing in Portland and made the decision to seek employment in either New York or Los Angeles
Uppers
Editing employs technical skills while at the same time use of the creative part of my brain. The creative aspect is the best part of this job.
Downers
The worst part of this job is the industry which it caters to; the entertainment industry is fun, but very materialistic and shallow.
Lifestyle
The office I work in is very casual, but there are numerous social events that include meeting with celebrities and opportunities for intellectual and social enlightenment come about often.
Compensation
Currently I am employed as a freelancer on a job-per-job payment basis. I am not afforded benefits nor stock options.
Advice to Jobseekers
Those wishing to find employment in the post-production industry should be well aware that this job is 80% organization and 20% creativity. Another helpful hint is knowing what type of production one would like working on; ie. Documentary, Narrative Film, Broadcast, Music Video, etc.
