Job Responsibilities
My responsibilities include finding and developing new business
along with keeping current business on board. Also manage some
lending staff to better serve our customers.

Job Requirements
I currently hold a graduate degree from the university of
Colorado in Boulder, along with a B.S. in Marketing from
Southeast Missouri State University. The graduate degree is
helpful in this profession in regards to learning new Ideas from
other bankers and other areas of the country. Anything you can
learn to better you position with the customer base is helpful.

Uppers
Freedom to see clientel, ability to make decisions on my own, and enough rope to
let me hang myself once in a while!
|
Downers
Paperwork can bog down the lending process if the company you
work for is inclined in that direction. I have been in both
situations and am lucky to work for a company now who doesn't
require overkill in that area.
|
Lifestyle
This job affords me the ability to work hours that are varied. I am in the bank
during the day, however, I can come and go as I need to. I will occasionally
spend time there at night finishing projects as needed, however, there is a lot
of freedom. Bankers don't always make tons of money, but there are other
lifestyle rewards that come with it.
|
Compensation
I am currently on a straight salary. My bank is not a huge
conglomerate. It is a small company with locations in 5 small
towns in Southeast Missouri. I live one of these small towns
and am the Vice President in one of the locations. I've been in
banking for 9 years and currently make approx. $54,000/year.
There are however, some banks who pay on a base plus commission.
That is not typically normal though for my area.

Advice to Jobseekers
If you enjoy working with and helping other people, banking can
be a very rewarding career. There are many perks you don't get
with other jobs. I think that as long as there are people
needing things there will be a need for young people to get into
the lending field.
