Job Responsibilities
The job resposibilities inclueded working in one of two cells. A cell consists of a group of people that all work in order to produce a part. For example if you worked in the motor cell than each person worked at a station to perform a different tast to build the wiper motor. Once the motor reaches the last staion you have a built and tested motor to then be passed on to the other cell to be put into a wiper module. The same kind of assembly line work is done in the other cell. Every person works at a station and performs a task that they reapeat for each wiper module built. Every two hours or so the group would rotate over a station so by the end of an eight hour shift everyone had performed all the tasks.
Job Requirements
First you have to fill out an aplication and then someone calls you to set up an interview. There is so experience needed for the production positions. Management positions are the ones that require schooling and/or experience. Durring the interview ou are asked some questions to determine if you would be better suited to work in a cell or on a line. The better of the two is to be placed into a cell. You are paid more for this and are not restricted to sit in a chair for eight hours. Then you are sent for a physical and drug test. They are really looking at the drug test results. There is a no drug tolerence for all employees. Once hired you are put on 6 months of probation and are randomly drug tested durring this time.
Uppers
The best parts of the job were the starting pay is higher that minimum wage. They offer a great health plan with many choices to pick the one that best fitss your lifestyle. They also offer a good 401k plan. You get a decent vacation and sick time offered each year of employment. Also working for an employer and having a union to protect you is very nice.
Downers
The worst parts of the job are the late hours and not much room to advance. The heat is the summer when woking in a factory is brutal. It always seems to be hot all year round from the heat off the machine you must work around.
Lifestyle
The work hours are late. You are pretty much stuck working b-shift hours with a slim to none chance of days shift. There is no travel required for this position which is helpful if you have a family. The dress code is very casual. A t-shirt and jeans is aceptable dress. Durring the summer months shorts are permitted.
Compensation
Starting pay for this job is above minimum wage which is not easy to find these days. You recieve raises twice a year. Every employee is offered a 401k plan. You can choose whether you would like your 401k stock to be put into a fixed or variable stock. The health benifits are great. There is a number of different plans to choose from. Every person is able to find the right insurace to fit there needs.
Advice to Jobseekers
The advice I give job seekers is be prepaired to work hard. This is not a looking pretty field. You will get your hads dirty and sometimes even your clothes. The pay is nice though and worth getting dirty.
