Job Responsibilities
In my current possition my main responsibility is accountability for all soldiers, equipment, and vehicles. I must know where everyone and everything is at all times. I am also responsible for sending up a number of reports through my chain of command this is usually worth 1-2 hrs of work per day.The accountability part of the job is maintained at all time while on shift which is usually 8 hrs. but its the ARMY so if ya gotta work extra hours its part of the deal.I am also responsible for gathering and distributing intel from the rest of my fellow soldieres, which is also something I do constantly through out my usual shift. Its the ARMY we go 24/7, we never wuit and we are always open for business. HOOAH!!!
Job Requirements
To join the military you must have a high school diploma or equivalant(GED).If you have 60 or more college hours you can join up and go to Officer Candidate School and become a leader in todays ARMY. Depending on what kind of job you are looking for doesn't really matter, the ARMY is always looking for bright, motivated individuals to fill positions where ever needed. You will complete an 8 week basic training course at one of the many military post in the U.S. After the completion of this training you will receive additional individual training (AIT) for your specific job title, the length of this training all depends on what job you have chosen in the military. It can be anywhere from 7 to 21 weeks all depending on what you want to do in your military career. The ARMY also offers the G.I. Bill and Student Loan Assistance Program which will pay back up to 10,000 in student loans prior to enlistment. They will also pay for you to further your education at any school in the U.S. Its probably one of the sweetest deals going if you are serious about a career in the military or even a career in the civilian world after you have completed your service.
Uppers
The best part of my job is the brotherhood that I have built with my fellow soldiers and the memories that I have made over the years. The travel and pay is pretty sweet to, I've seen parts of the world I would have never had a chance to see, had I not decided to help defend this great country of ours I'd probably have worked in some local job and been stuck there for the rest of my life. The pay is excellent and so are the benefits!!
Downers
It's just like any other job, some people you work well with, some people you don't. We have are good days and our bad days just like any civilian job.For me the good outways the bad by a vast majority. In general I love my job and love the military and wouldn't want to do anything else.
Lifestyle
As for work hours its the ARMY, your on call 24/7 if you gotta work, ya gotta work. All travel is always paid by the military if it is job related, not to mention most of the time if you travel there is some incentive pay which is always a bonus. On the social side we are like one big family, we are always doing something to keep moral up. Basketball, softball, tournaments. Company pic-nics. We always find a way to have a good time while not on duty. The ARMY is very diversified, people from all walks of life. There is a massive amount of people from different places, regions, races, religions. So if you like to meet new and different people this is your kinda work.
Compensation
Your salary depends on your rank and time in service, just like any other job.But the pay is good at all ranks so there really isn't anything to complain about on the pay side. Upon enlistment you may also receive an enlistment bonus ranging from 5,000 to 15,000 dollars all depending on your job title. The military will also pay for you to further your education and will pay back up to 10,000 dollars of student loans upon enlistment. There are a variety of stock options and benefits which is so long I couldn't possibly get into all of them. Also after 180 days of active duty servic you will get Veterans Benefits which will help you through out the countinuation of your life.
Advice to Jobseekers
If your looking for something new and exciting this is for you. If your just coming out of high school and don't know what to do with the rest of your or if your just tired of your regular 9-5 this is the life for you. The job outlook is unbeleivably secure, there will always be a need to fight and defend the U.S., so if your looking for job security. The military will probably be around for a long, long, long time. So visit your local recruiter and he will be more than happy to help and advise you on your enlistment. Looking forward to working with you in a way, remember its a brotherhood and we are the biggest family in the world. Do your part to serve the greatest nation on Earth and see your local recruiter ASAP.
