Job Responsibilities
Supervision of 9-180 personnel, to include training and daily
supervision. Management of budgets from $1 million - $25 million.
Dependent on tour, could be responsible for 350 lives and $1
billion dollars worth of equipment (e.g., Guided Missle Cruiser,
Aircraft, Submarine, etc.)

Job Requirements
Undergraduate degree required to become an Officer in the Navy.
School can be paid for by scholarship, contact your local NROTC
Recruiting Officer.

Uppers
Satisfaction of serving your country, mentoring younger people that have little
direction in life, and gaining leadership and management experience. Travel the
world.

Downers
Constant travel, including six-month deployments, away from
family. Working some weekends due to standing duty.

Lifestyle
Work hours are long, duty requires 24-hour days, deployments or underways
require 20-hour days; travel is tremendous, but you get to see the world.
Tight-knit social group (unavoidable living on a ship...), dress code is very
strict.

Compensation
100% medical and dental coverage, compensation is commensurate
with somewhat lower level management positions in the private
sector; compared with hours worked, compensation is not commensurate.

Advice to Jobseekers
It not a job, it's an adventure. Cliche, but true. Those that
want to serve in the military don't do if for the money. You have
to want to serve, or really need the money for school.
